Getting booted alot?
If you are getting booted almost non stop, or your cp is acting like it wants to close the game, you might wanna try installing this, it supports the game launcher, without it, pirates wont run very long without it.
The most recent framework file can be downloaded by goingHere Also make sure you keep framework and all of your other drives by checking windows update to stay updated do the following steps >Start menu >Windows update Let it check to see if your cp has what it needs to see all of the information to view the site. If not, then install ActiveX, and everything else Windows tells you to install/run, and remember, its not gonna harm your computer, everything there is from windows/microsoft. How to do the vista update? I have no idea This is one of the basic needs needed for the game to run clean, hope it was helpful! |
Literally 2 mintues before you posted this i got a Windows notice saying there are new updates ready to be installed on my computer :D
|
I think it would be safer to just recommend people use Windows update to make sure they have all the latest. Simply downloading a single file and installing it may cause more problems by leaving out some other updated component that works with it, but is not part of it.

I get booted everytime lately when someone needs the plus sign to chat(i press the button) then it freezes and crashes.

For some reason, windows doesnt find framework "important." So only the newer computers come with it. So you have to put it on yourself

And dont think its required for Pirates. I do not install it on my PC ever, matter of fact, the only pc I have it on, is the only PC I have that pirates crashs on. I do not recommend installing .net framework, unless you have applications that require it. (although I think it comes in Vista already, which is one of my 3 computers I play pirates on) |
Most computers that can play the game already have it anyway. Leaving it simple, and in mine words:The launhcer cant run on its own, and it needs something to back it up, and framework is a support/backup file. To leave it simple, it might help you stay a little longer :)

Andrew, if I may ask, what is your source of information? I have found from my occupation (computer support specialist) that, most applications requiring .net framework have it listed as a system requirement, and POTCO does not. IE7 I do believe requires it, and that may be where many systems get it these days. (I do not use IE7) |
My sister -_-

Ok! Well I think I expected something a bit more informative and official.
I stick to my answer. |
A workaround of this problem of getting booted, which usually comes from a recent Update from POTCO, because I assume it used to work before and now it doesn't, you can try the "workaround" fix by changing the OS compatibility on the Launcher and it worked fine, until a new update comes up. It has worked for me previously.

Getting booted often is more of a recent problem in the last 2 or so updates and is because Disney has installed a lot of spyware type software in the launcher.exe application to start POTC.
The easiest way around this is very very simple and it also speeds up and protects against lag issues in privateering. Once you log in follow these instructions to the letter. pick your pirate and actually get into the game do not do this from the log screen. Once in the game and on land press Control/Alt/Delete this brings up windows task manager (XP) click tab titled processes then click user name tab so that all the user processes are at the top find the process (Launcher.exe) right click select the top one END process and it will shut down the launcher.exe from Disney this will have zero impact in the game as it is only needed to start the game. Disney uses the launcher program which runs in the background to root through your logs and files and it slows your PC to a crawl causing boot and lag issues. there are literally dozens of ways to correct lag problems but those are TRADE secrets but this recent booting issue by Disney is down right malicious in nature. It may also be the way Disney employees can use admin codes and boot or freeze players during privateering for personal gain. Once you are in the game the launcher program is no longer needed and it's continual use taking up processing power and RAM can only mean problems in instances like privateering when lots of players in one spot and you need every ounce of speed and advantage. when you stop the launcher.exe process do not click the end process tree as you will also shut down the POTC program as well. if you try this and find it useful respond to the thread to let others know it works and simply to not take MY WORD on the issue. |
How would you achieve closing the launcher using a mac / Apple computer?

Thank you Arioch for that piece of info on the lag problem. I will try that and see if that helps when I privateer. I always blamed it on Disney or peeps glitching while svsing. I or we do fine while svsing until we are just a few feet from the opposing ship and then things like lag, screen freezes up, or I get booted. So I will give this idea a whirl and see if it helps. Thanks a bunch!! Kani of Spartan Ellite
