Voice chat question

I was curious if anyone has ever tried using something like msn or yahoo voice chat with a headset to talk to a friend while in the game. I would assume you would have to bring it up then minimize it and start the game. Just curious if this would work or anybody has tried it. I am trying to help a "real" (know this person in real life) friend and it would be faster and less irritating than typing. Before someone says "I don't know why don't you try it", I will say that I don't own a headset and don'y have any of these programs downloaded. Thanks!

Yes. It is much easier than typing. I'm no expert on it, but I do know that some programs run in the background and some don't. Vent and Yahoo can be run in the background, and I like those the best. Do some research, figure out what works best for you and your friends.

When we had a full guild and ya couldn't even get a sentence through cause it had a word like "wheel" in it, we went to vent.

This made things incredibly better and communication in all aspects of working with a guild.

Down sides, someone has to host and pay for a server for vent. We didn't have much a problem with that, with how frustrated some were with chat.

Pirates Online has big issues with this, basically cause they have no control what people may say. Even saying Vent was getting some of our people banned.

We had a great informative guild site, never could be listed basically because of vent info also included on it. A key issue I believe affecting giving out guild sites, let alone vent info itself, for bans.

So giving out anything like a voice chat address in game will more than land ya in jail, it will give you a nice 3 day pass. Thus the problem of communicating the address to friends, guild members, etc.

I have used yahoo voice, aim voice and also msn voice, and I have to say that msn voice is probably the best to use while playing the game. It has a good sound and it doesn't cut out or fizzle out like the other two so much. I play POTCO without the full screen so I can use msn voice when chatting with rl friends.

Oh and dl and installing msn or the others are easy to do, if you need help let me know and I can guide you through the install, and yes a headset or using your speakers would work. I prefer my headset for privacy, and you can adjust the sound on it as well.

I think i read somewhere on the house of rules such programs were not allowed on the game... is this true?

That's the official word. A shorter summary is that as long as the software you're using doesn't directly touch the game client, you don't have a problem.

(Doing something like giving out Vent servers addresses in-game would be bad, but for other reasons.)

No BPG, the POTCO house rules are talking of third party programs and macros, not chats.
