The only downside I feel with XP Pro 32 bit is I only see 3.2 gig of my 4 gigs of ram
and that is max regardless of the slots or chips.

Not sure but think Vista has at least 8 gigs for the basic 32 bit version. For me presently it is really not to big of a drawback as my board only has 4 slots for DDR3 ram and the 2gig modules have higher latency and do not support very high over clocking compared to the 1 gig chips.

Service pack 3 for XP is downright EVIL and should be avoided unless absolutely needed.

When I load a fresh install of windows XP pro it is service pack 2 and I go online and update Direct X 9.0C, Widows media player 11, and internet explore 7
Nothing else period. I do not even use explorer as I use Firefox I just update it in case I might need it.
Nothing else PERIOD people should be aware that Microsoft is NOT your friend.
watch the movie pirates of silicon valley to find out how Microsoft got where they are today.
