If you are having a lot of trouble pushing an AFK, try changing methods. I've found that I can't use the mouse at all, when pushing an AFK - I have to do it all by keyboard. Other people swear by joystick-pushing, yet other using joysticks can't push at all. The essential principle to it, is to look for their foot circle (like you see when you attune them) and overlap your pirate's foot circle, at the point opposite of the direction you want them to go.

Pushing uphill is about 10 times harder than pushing downhill. Glancing your circle off the other pirate's circle (like a billiard ball) tends to work better for longer-faster individual pushes. If you pass through the pushee, keep walking in that same direction for a moment, before looping back around to start a fresh push (because sometimes, you will "drag" them as you go forward.)

Note that many wall glitches that require two people to "push" through, are made even easier when one of the two is AFK (since most wall glitches are a kind of network latency timing phenomenon, one person being AFK helps to dramatically increase that latency.)

But, if the AFK is on a saturated connection (doing several large simultaneous downloads or something) then they will be immobile and stuck, until they get booted. No amount of pushing will make them budge. I think that is like the minute or two after they get "Internet connection to POTCO has dropped" but before the server has reset their pirate.

As others have said, use prudence, with who you do this to. If it isn't someone you know, they may get unreasonably upset.
