Ahhh - the missing detail of being a new pirate
When you create a new pirate, you are only on the "Welcome Servers" seperated from the rest. You remain there until you set sail and actually land on Devils Anvil (Some say you can just re-doc and then you are ok - don't know the actual setup currently).
Now that he is on the regular servers - there should not be a problem with server selection and switching
