I'd like to know why we can't seel the clothes we start with.
but to answer your question getting to 1000 gold shouldn't be that difficult. Plunder runs, as previously stated, should net you quick gold.
I don't even worry about my pirates clothing until i have purchased my level 5 & 10 weapons and have bought a frigate. To me those are far more importand purchases. once i have those i start to play dress up.
