It's more likely that it was a simpler version of it.
One of the video insiders on the pirates site shows the E3 previews of pirates and people playing pirates. The Kraken battle people at E3 played was probably a very washed out version of the Kraken battle.. I bet all the Kraken did was wave around it's tentacles and pick people up. Probably nothing special.
