Seems to me we can learn from what the CCG has done and take the best of it and merge it with the different reality of this game and come up with something that really helps others. Of all the ideas spent here it seems my first thoughtts are still spot on: Lots of people willing to help, but not a lot of ways of getting the people who need it to find us outside of this site and some word of mouth.
Now word of mouth can be powerful. Just go to busy servers and point people under level 10 to a thread/forum for the Pirate Raiders (or whatever it would be named) and get them to spread the word to others their own level as they get more into the game.
I propose we start off by running it as an extended event/test and see where it goes. If it works out to be something of substance we can ask for a sub forum here and elect some officers to help run it. Just because I started this thread doesn't mean I want to be chief here lol.
The reason I am leaning toward non specific events/times is that it will be a challenge enough to find enough people who need help to keep the people willing to help busy, but limiting what they can ask for to only a couple of times a day would remove much of the attractiveness. I mean you are only level 20 once and need kingshead twice and do you really want to wait half a day for it? Then between them you need something at sea so what if that time isn't until after the last kingshead run for the night? You would end up having to wait for the next day, or making friends with the helpers and having them help you outside the run times.
To me I like to help, but I don't really want to add a whole bunch of strangers to my friends list and we are not looking to recruit people to our guild. I'd still love to help out as many strangers as I can, but help them and move on. Having hourly or bi-hourly run times for any event would give a place to meet, have the people going together crew up, and go get it donw and move on.
Proposed rules:
1. To be in the group you must be willing to help anyone with any task you are able to assist with. This means even just running and showing someone a dig spot or help find a NPC they lost etc. You agree to let others pilot your ship if they need the experience on a higher level ship than they have. You will also help anyone no matter what their skill level is. If someone sinks your ship right away you will not simply dump them and give up. You don't lose anything by sinking so you agree to stick with it and really try to help them learn it! Failure to follow this rule may get you tossed out of the group.
2. We will help anyone, but those in need of help cannot expect or demand helpers to add them to their guilds or friends lists. Helpers can of course invite them to either at their discretion.
3. All those in need of help will try to be clear about what they need and respect the groups they end up going with. Demanding to take charge/drive or otherwise not playing nice may be grounds enough to have the helper(s) de-crew you and move on to helping those who are in need and able to conduct themselves in a better manner. You will not be helped if you fail to be nice and respect the needs of everyone else in your party.
4. The helpers will attempt to be as clear as possible up front over how the event will run. They will help decide who is driving what boat to where for what etc so no one can get upset about not being able to do the things they wanted. Whenever possible you will try to help everyone in the party out by letting them take turns driving, take turns healing, etc so everyone has a chance to take part and earn skills.
5, Everyone agrees that it may be necessary to combine multiple tasks into one group and that you may end up going alone with parts of a group after things you do not need in order to get to the things you do need. It simply doesn't make sense to make several sea parties for going after skeletons, EITC, or Navy as seperate groups but rather have everyone in need go together and take out all targets until everyone has what they need. Likewise Kingshead I and II can be done together as well as the two different tasks in the thieves den, or say someone needing skeletons while someone else needs to dig near where some skeletons can be found. You will find people willing to help, but you may have to do things for others as well to get there.
Is there anything else people can think of as general rules or needs not addressed here?
If we can find some common agreement we can list this as a starter event with a basic set of rules and see where it goes from there. As always, your input is welcome, even if you just want to say this is a lame idea.
