Though I like the idea if getting a 'pearl' ship - you hit the point right on mentioning that everyone would eventually have one (then it wouldn't be special anymore)
Not sure how to get around that... maybe an almost impossible quest (which players may complain about being unfair, so I can't see it happening) or a special award / code (outstanind account for one year or something)...
If I could customize my ship - I think that would be the bomb-diggity!
