I agree with you but I think you might be a little off the mark here...
Some of the ferocity might just be born of frustration. I, for one, am extremely frustrated with Pirates online. There is simply nothing left to do.
I used to log on to chat and goof off with the guild but the once noble guild I belong to has died on the vine. I ask why and the answer is ALWAYS the same. "Nothing left to do..." But I am, above all, a patient pirate. I wait for new content, new events, anything to give it a go one more day. I log on at least once a week, run around in circles, take noobs sailing for gold and heal complete strangers. And yes...I will revive someone I don't even know at least once. Who cares. It's why I carry 15 tonics now. Revive uses the weakest one.
Anyway, if the dev news can't do any better than revive trickery, it might be a tad frustrating to some pirates... Just an opinion.
