While this message thread is old, the problem that caused it, unfortunately, is not. I have heard recently of other guilds (besides Mcraging) being destroyed by a new officer, who removed all other members prior to abandoning the guild.
IMHO, officers should not be able to be deleted by anyone other than the guildmaster. Certainly, only the guildmaster has the right to promote or demote a member to or from officer's rank, so restricting the removal of officers would be easy: only allow someone to removed from the guild if they have first been demoted to member rank.
Whether the guildmaster should have the only removal right is a subject that I offer for debate. I can see that a large guild might want to allow its officers to remove unruly members, however, I think there should be restrictions on this. Perhaps, the game should send a message to the guildmaster's email account when a guild member is removed, saying which officer did it and the removed member's name. Especially, I think an officer should only be permitted to remove one member in a given 24-hour period.
