I say stick to the code.
Contrary to popular belief, pirates did follow their own codes upon their ships- rules that were democratically voted upon and signed by all the pirates. The articles of Captain Bartholomew Roberts and Captain John Phillips are prime examples.
Anyway, there's enough violent video games out there with people shooting each other. One of the reasons I like POTCO so much is because it's actually good, clean fun.
