I'm up to lvl 11, but I'm still terrible at it. The only reason I've gotten this far is because when I use them on the field at Kingshead, nobody can hit me back (although I hear that's about to change, too.)
I started working on them because everyone said they were great once you got the level up enough, and the passive skills available helped in other areas, too. I'm still not convinced.
