Yeah it is fun, but it gets boring after a while. My weapons just seem to be getting old, and I have nothing to look forward to in the game. I almost got a War Galleon, just need more rep, but after that, then what? I really don't like the designs of Frigates anymore. Ship customization would be awesome. Maybe after you max sailing and or cannons you could unlock it. Maybe a legendary ship if you maxed out cannons and sailing.
