Yes i am glad the timer is gone, i like the new sailing (but i do play on high graphics) more. The EITC markings on the sails seemed a bit silly to me, i mean, who actually paints their sails? Aren't flags for that?

Another point why i didn't like the old sailing was the fact that on busy servers there were always people saying that the Kraken would come from the ocean and drag your ship down if you waited long enough.... So many people waited an hour on the ship anxious to see the Kraken and were then sent straight to jail with nothing but disappointment.

Besides... How many pirates sailed the Caribbean staring at an hourglass? Not something i would see Jack Sparrow doing... Hehe!

Doesn't it look more realistic with ropes than loading screen and you are just there?
Hmm, then you also didn't get to experience the problems with it.

You summoned your ship from the dockworker's office on the dock. Your ship magically appeared to the end of the dock and you had to run to it. There was about... 30 seconds to run to the ship, jump aboard the ship and grab your helm. If you weren't fast enough, your ship would disappear and you had to do the whole thing again. And then, from islands like Devil's Anvil, you had to swim to your ship and climb aboard. Oh wait, it didn't work? You actually kept on running underwater and never got on your ship? Indeed, it was great fun logging out and in again just because your ship got stuck on the island.

This also meant that the enemy ships were actually inside the bay you launched your ship from. Wohoo? Nay, i don't think so. On a level 3 pirate, in the smallest dinghy, against a level 28 Man-O-War? It was highly unlikely to survive. And don't forget the fact that there was this great guild called the Cuba Gang, who spent their days blocking islands and not letting people get through. Since at that time every ship was able to sink the other. Kinda like non-stop SvS!

If you had crew, they also had to swim to the ship and the Captain allowed them the access to board... I think, at least you weren't able to jump on every time. Good swimming practice though!

This all was in Beta 1 though... So it has been years since any of these things have actually been in the game. I'd recall they took the ship launching off right before Beta 2? If someone remembers better than me, please share.
