I think what happens is that they send in the first line of the brigade, like the witchdoctors and pirates in the first brigade, and then once we've been weakened a bit, send in two or three powder keg runners.
Be warned mates, I've seen a level fifty get knocked over because he was standing too close to one.

The whole "don't use a cutlass or a dagger" is probably the best advice to give with these.
Not to mention, they take out entire barricades with just one. I think a good strategy is to lure them away from the barricades before blowing them up, because they will follow you.
