As for the timer, it was in game, set for one hour. No Kracken came out when the timer ran out, you just sunk. (man, that was fun trying to beat the clock and get back to shore...
)
As far as the little pic of the kracken there, that's been around for almost as long as the game has, and we have yet to see the beast.
