The Vera Cruz ships port on Padre Island to restock their weapons and do some repairs. Also to allow Utopia to catch up.
If they want a successful ambush on the French they must be ready.
Torquemada secretly enlists 3 pirate vessels to attack the French one week before the Vera Cruz ships arrive. No one knows about this.

(TSC, I changed your port. The Vera Cruz ships are more than 2 weeks out of Vera Cruz, they wouldn't port there.) That's what I meant.
