All of The NPC Characters in the game did say stuff about new islands. You just had to keep pressing shift to talk to them for awhile until they would bring it up.
Anyway, these new shrouded islands should be really fun to explore and to "test". But, now It seems they are not talking about them anymore. I wonder why? :/
