Well I got an email back from them after submitting my bug report about launcher problems:
Hi Pirate Pal,
Thanks for writing to us! We're sorry to hear that you are experiencing some issues with the game right now. We are aware that as of June 30th, some of our guest's are experiencing issues logging into the game. This is due to a compatibility issue between anti-virus software programs and our game. We are aware of the issue and our doing our best to resolve it. Please try logging in again in a little bit.
If you have another issue that is separate from this known log in issue, please respond to this email and we'll help you out as soon as we can!
We thank you for your patience and understanding, bye now!

Which prompted me to check my launcher record. Indeed it said that my Avast Ant-ivirus software was a possible incompatibility, as well as 3 other programs which are in no way related to anti-virus software. (One is even a card game! =? ) Soooooo....we shall play the waiting game and see what they come up with for a fix for all this mess...
