July 16, As I study these creatures (Gravediggers), it becomes more and more apparent that they have an unusual, loosely hierarchal chain of command. The strongest (Usually male, though not always) is leader. He watches over the proceedings and makes sure that intruders are dealt with properly. In return, they are showed utmost respect from his/her followers. However, the position is a precarious one. Any who decides to do so, may challenge the leader. As a safeguard a foreigner, having slain the leader, does not take his place unless they announced the challenge first. I challenged the leader of the group on Port Royal, and while it was hardly a contest, he did put up a better fight than any of the others would have.
As is the ritual when a new leader is chosen, I am bowed to repeatedly by several of the group before they return to their work. Another curiosity I've noticed is that sometimes, an Undead Bandit will become leader. As Gravediggers are usually closed to outsiders, this is a very unusual practice.
