Chapter 3: Ambush

As Davy stood up to leave, Francis halted him.

“Davy, wait…” He said nervously.

Davy looked at him. He needed to be back to ship or the crew would get worried. Or at least Sven Johnson, who had stayed with Davy for all those ten years. “What is it Mr. Truehound?”

Francis took a deep breath, then said, “If you came back, you could start a new life here. I could take you under my care. You have so much potential. Don’t waste your life becoming a pirate. Pirate’s lives only come to horrible ends.

Please, stay here. You don’t have to become a pirate!”

Davy looked at him for a long time. It was a good offer, and parts of him missed his old life. But was that other part of him that knew that he was destined to do what he was doing. He was shipwrecked for a reason. And if he stayed as a pirate, he could sail the seas forever, which is what he truly loved.

Then Davy spoke up, “Sorry Mr. Truehound, but I can’t leave my current life. There was a reason that The Eagle sank, and I wound up on the pirate ship. I appreciate your offer, but I cant accept it. I am a pirate, and nothing will change that.”

“Then I cannot let you leave the island!” Cried out Francis, punching Davy in the face. Davy fell down on the floor, his nose bloodied. Then Francis pulled out a butcher’s knife, and brought it down to Davy’s heart.

Davy waited for death, but it never came. He opened his eyes, to see the knife only a few millimeters away from his heart, which was now beating wildly. Then he looked up at Francis, who then said, “I can’t kill you… Your father, if he saw you today, he would be ashamed. Go, now. Before I change my mind about letting you go.”

Francis released his grip on Davy, and stood. Davy then got up, watching Francis.

“Perhaps he would be, but he’s gone now, and its my choice. Not his.” Davy walked out of the room. Stopping to grab a bottle of rum. “And I knew you lied about the rum being gone.”

As Davy walked out of the house, he looked one last time at Francis Truehound. Francis was watching him with a sad look, or maybe it was ashamed. Davy couldn’t tell. Then he left.

Davy arrived back on the Black Swan. He was greeted by Captain Hawk, Gill, and Sven.

“Where were you Davy? We were getting worried about you!” Sven said.

“Sorry, spent a little more time in the town than I thought, and I have lots to tell you all. And I think that we should leave Port Royal immediately, for reasons I shall explain in my story.”

“Very well Davy, lets all head to my cabin, so we can have maximum privacy,” stated Hawk.

After entering the cabin, Davy told everyone about everything that happened. There was a long silence while everyone took it in. Davy waited for a response. Finally, Gill broke the silence.

“Davy, I’m sorry about your mother, house, everything. Ye didn’t deserve this mate.”

“Thanks Gill… but as I told Francis Truehound, I think that all this happened for a reason. Nothing is random. This is somehow tied in to my destiny. What that is yet, I haven’t the slightest idea.”

There was another silence, then Hawk broke it. “All right mates, lets get to bed. We gotta wake up early tomorrow so we can cast off.”

Everyone nodded, and headed off to their bunks.

They raised the sails at dawn, and Port Royal was far behind them at around noon. They sailed through all the day. Nothing significant happened, other than that Peg Leg Peter accidentally dropped his lit pipe onto a pile of gunpowder, which ended up blowing him to Davy Jones’ Locker.

Finally, with Port Royal out of sight, night fall arrived. It was a cloudy night, with a layer of fog on the water. It didn’t look like it would rain, however some of the crew said they thought they saw lightning.

That night, Davy couldn’t sleep. Something was bothering him, but he didn’t know what. Around midnight, he finally got out of his bunk, and walked out on deck. It was a peaceful night, the air was fresh, the sea was calm. Then Davy looked out to the side of the ship, and saw something he hoped to never see again. It was a ship with a rotted hull and tattered sails. One of Jolly Roger’s ships, or worse, Jolly Roger himself. The ship was coming straight towards the Black Swan. There was only one thing to do: sound the alarm.

Davy ran over to the alarm bell, passing the sleeping guard. I’ll worry about him later… Davy thought. He rang the bell and yelled out, “ENEMY SHIP OFF THE STARBOARD BOW!!! GET OUT OF BED LANDLUBBERS!!! OR I WILL HAVE THE CAPTAIN MAKE YE WALK THE PLANK!!!”

Soon, the whole crew was awake and up, looking at the incoming ship. It was much closer now, and was moving surprisingly fast for a ship with tattered sails. Then the captain spoke.
“BATTLE STATIONS MEN! LETS SINK THAT SHIP, AND PROVE THAT WE ARE STRONGER THAN OL’ JOLLY ROGER!!!”
