Theres a little thing, well, in my book...a big thing...called "seniority". There are other members usually waiting for promotion. Veteran is a great new rank...but still...can have its fall backs. If you give the rank veteran to too many members without care...and those members recruit whomever they please without following some strict guidelines....the foundation of your guild can be weakened...spammers, flamers, trolls, spies....oh my!!!! Good members start to walk...

In some guilds, there are more rank levels than those designated by dis. But, usually, they are limited spots...and are proportional to population in guild.

In the two main guilds I have pirates as officers, we have the "do not ask to be an officer rule", and recruiters must explain(as required to do for all rules to a new recruit)... its a promotion that comes from the guildmaster, after time spent doing good for your guild and fellow pirates.
And, anyone who causes grief over rules shouldn't be recruited.
