In some circles its considered rude for crew other than the captain to be soliciting for their guilds, the captain is after all providing the ship and helping fill your pockets with gold while you are sailing with him. I've booted people out of my crew and taken the ship off public settings for a while when they were on my ship spamming out guild invites. or being obnoxious in other ways.

I really wouldn't mind if someone asked me "can you join my guild?" I would just politely decline and it would be over. However if they started to spam me or be really annoying I would ask them to leave/stop if it continued I would report him probably.
