Perhaps Elizabeth Swann can warn you about Fort Charles, Jack Sparrow about Rumrunners, etc. After you view the cutscene, (which CAN be skipped, however, there's another thing incase people did skip it,) it'll open up your sea chest to a tab that looks sort of like this in layout: (question marks indicate areas you have not yet been to)

Get the idea? The cutscene could be with the sliding pictures like Jack Shipsteel suggested, which might be better than the Pirates characters.
