At least half the time, someone gets left behind, and we find grape shot to be immensely helpful especially when fighting on the higherlevel flags. Whoever gets left behind uses the F1 button to unfreeze, then grabs the nearest cannon and fires away at the enemy crew. It does't harm us, and kills the enemy. Spend an extra skill point, that I don't know, but at least unlock it for sure.

Ya, I prefer to use round shot when this happens. For me, it does way more damage and I can hit more than 1 NpC if thier close together.
