I personally leveled my cannons up by myself, becasue I dont normally go to a friends ship, they ussually come to me. I just shoot a ship in the distance with my cannon, and just shoot them as they come closer. If they get to close, then I'll just run to the wheel and use Sail to get some distance and start all over again. My cannon is Lv 12. Thats the level you need to get the Lightning Shot.
