You may not particularly like this option, but I mention since it is something different and you're already on Padres' beach anyway....

I wish I had figured it a bit earlier, but I've only used it to gain levels 11 & 12, so far. Incidentally, dagger and grenades are my favorite land weapons, so I often lob a grenade, throw a dagger, and the start slicing as I run up to a mob.

Since you put a second point on your regular grenade, you may as well use flame burst primarily (and a nice mix in of other grenades if you like).

Starting near the dock on Padres' back beach, run right up the waterline toward the east. As you near the rock wall on the east, you'll see a Rock Crab on the left, up where the slope starts to level off--run straight to that Rock Crab. Have your grenades out, and the camera at the about the angle you want to use as you start backing up.

Just start moving straight back, or alternatively you may want to angle your back inland a bit for the first few steps before you straighten out so you're backing up due west now.

You'll have picked up 3 Giant Crabs, as you ran up the coastline. As you're backing up they're going to get a couple free shots at you, but after that it's as simple as just backing up at a smooth, steady pace.

It might not seem like much, especially if you get stuck with a couple small level-16 or 17 crabs at first; however, the whole key is that by the time you've backed up to the near the dock area, the Giant Crabs are ready to respawn again so just start moving east again.

The big upshot is the rapid respawn rate gives the routine a nice continuous pace, and the gun shop is only a couple steps away. Plus, Giant Crabs are easy to hit and so large that they all stay inside the smallest blast radii easily. Gypsies, then, become a convenient way to burn off remnant grenades on your way back to the shop to fill back up on supplies.
