No They said "Oh Pirates you came and rescued me!" then they appear upon the flagship and ask for a sword and then they help you fight them off. But i did see how they did it. Catherine was a ghost pirate. On the swing back she showed her true self i didn't catch it fast enough to get a screen tho. she was blue during the swing then landed as a full person
So they used the disappearing skill the ghosts had before.
