My guild and I like to keep a joke running from PIC - whenever we see a "Flounder," we screech out in guild about the oh-so-shiny gold tag. After all, we are pirates.
Founders have become a rarity, though. They still do exist, just in smaller numbers than before. So much so, I find myself hard pressed to find one aside from the ones in my guild, and those that only come out at large, usually Disney-run events.
There is a community of founders that do reside on their own little site, which I have the pleasure of being a guest at. But outside of that place, you more than likely are going to have trouble finding regularly-active founders.
Regardless, while it is sad to see the group of pirates that founded the game have diminished, it warms many hearts to see that a newer generation of pirates has come to take up the torch. And I'm sure this cycle will unfortunately continue, with more pirates coming to take on what the Caribbean, and take the spots of those who have left us...
...Except for Del, who is too bitter and too far in to give up any time soon
