I hope so to, I thought that more so when the Bounty Hunter NPC ships came out. They seem to be customized as far as hull and sails go, so hopefully the game devs will release similar customization options for us. Though I don't think player customization will be anything major, probably we will only be able to change ship paint color, sail color and design, and possibly the cannon types on the ship deck since someone found different cannons in the game files some time ago. Ship customization is probably going to have to start off small.
I see flag, hull, mast, colors being a key aspect of it, along with flags obtained through quests. We can't forget ship decorations like lanterns and possibly different doors on the ship.
I don't think the physics will be an immediate thing we see with it. Mast placement would affect ship performance so that would take a while but once the developers get used to it, designing ship flags and different colors would be similar to our clothing.
