The fastest way I gained gold was plundering around Padres Del Fuego with my guildies. If you see an Ogre or Monarch, make sure you sink em', as they tend to give out royals. Also, some skeleton ships usually give out royals, too.
Tormenta is also a good way to get some gold, if your daring enough. :P
