As a Pirate re-enactor and historian, I can tell you boots are a "movie/TV" thing anyway..even for men. Most pirates went barefoot on ship, unless they were dressing up to go ashore into town...then they wore shoes and stockings. There was no use for boots at sea...The salt water would eat away at them, they promoted foot fungus in wet conditions, and were made for people who walked in urine and dung infested streets at the time...not sailors. The same reason for wearing "slops" instead of pants....On a ship, your feet, ankles, and lower leg ARE going to be constantly wet...There was no use for boots and long pants, and they created problems at sea..... Just a historic point of view.
