Chapter 1

OK, here's chapter one. Now, I am a bit new at this "Story-writing" business, so I may be what you'd call a "noob"

June 17, 1715
Ratskellar, Padres Del Fuego
8:45 a.m.

I awoke. In a chair. In a bar. The aroma of rum and gunpowder filled my nostrils as I took one big breath in. A small table next to me held an empty mug. I moved to get up, but my whole body was sore and stiff. I had no idea how I came to be asleep in the chair, or even in the bar in the first place. Then, like a piece of dust in a small breeze, something stirred in my memory. A crew... For the Sea Hawk... Yes, that was it.

The Sea Hawk is considered the fastest Brig in the Caribbean, maybe even the whole world. The Hawk housed many secrets, including the infamous steel ram at the front of the ship, which I usually used to start a battle. Then, after that, I'd make a hard port turn, and broadside the front or back of the ship. My crew would have the muskets ready, and fire at the enemies on the opposing ship. By the time we boarded, there would be a small threat to take care of.

I needed a good, strong, crew to man the Hawk. My last crew, well, marooned me. I found a small, beached dinghy and made a sail out of my coat and shirt. I soon caught up to them, and quickly cut down the sentries. While the rest of the crew was sleeping, I stabbed a knife through the backs of each of them, through the hammock. That, way, they didn't make a sound or alert the other crew members. No crew who mutinied deserved to live. After I disposed of the crew, I took on my first mate. He was an easy match, considering I had the advantage of surprise.

So, as I was saying, I needed a good, strong crew to man the Hawk. Pirates who were worth their salt. Pirates who wouldn't mutiny. Pirates... Like that guy who is walking over to me.
He was a slim, thin figure, yet he appeared strong, and his eyes were of those who were used to the sea. In there, I saw a pirate that could take on almost everything that was thrown at him. He carried a double-barreled pistol, a slightly rusty cutlass, and a battle dirk. As he was walking, I noticed how his eyes never drifted from where he was walking. He was a man who could focus, and knew where he was and where others were around him.

"Excuse me," He started, "I was wondering who you might be."
"Well, now. Why would you want to know the name of me? Why not... That guy over there?" I gestured towered a man who was a bit obese, and was sitting in a chair halfway across the room.
This pirate seemed unimpressed by my comeback.
"Well," he started, "Because I've heard rumors. Rumors of the infamous Capin Hector being struck by mutiny- Then sailing to this port, Tortuga." He said it as if he was stating a fact, not confirming a rumor.
"I wanted to know if you had heard anything about him, or know where he is." He added.
"Why, of course I heard of him. In fact, you are hearing him right now!" I said, and actually thought I may be overdoing it a bit.
The stranger tilted his head a bit, like trying to hear a far-off noise. "Oh, really? And where might he be? In front of me, perhaps?"
"Yes. You're looking at him. Glad to make your acquaintance. I believe I never got your name."
"Name's Ottman. Most call me Otter. Heard ye were looking for a crew. May I sign up?"
"Hmm, we'll have to see about that. Come outside with me, will you?" I made an attempt to stand up, but then just remembered I was still sore from sleeping in a chair. I grunted, puffed, and wheezed, but then got up.

We got outside in an empty lot behind the tavern. There was a midmorning haze, and the air was humid, yet a light breeze stirred the area.
I stacked a couple wooden crates together, and told Ottman to slice clean through the top crate, then make a downward cut through all three. He did as told, and with surprising ease. After gawking in disbelief, I stood a wooden broom upside-down against a stone wall. I drew a line in the dirt about 30, 40 feet away, and told him to shoot it with the double-barrel. He did it, and with surprising accuracy. I could tell Otter (As I had begun to call him) was no beginner. I accepted him into the crew, and, for the time being, made him First Mate.

"Well, now what?" Otter asked.
"We find more worthy pirates." Was my reply.

...So, how'd ya like it? Boring? Good? Too long? Too short? I'd maybe expect the latter...
Lemme know what you think! Idk when the next chapter will be out... I got this one done so quickly.
