Long ago it was a bit of a challenge, but ever since two or three years ago, the Black Pearl Boss Battle as a whole has been watered down. I've done the whole battle with just me and one good gunner and come out alright, and I've heard of a few people who have completely soloed it.
It was at one point a challenge, but not anymore. It's quite a pity, as finishing the whole story chapter isn't too much of a challenge, and is rather anticlimactic with the easy battle.
