I am not sure it is all just lag, I have noticed taking damage where I didn't see any cannon fire or anything. As well as a stop in movement that generally means lag. I was thinking some of the cannon fire is just not showing up.
Yes some of the ships do have explosives now, I have seen my ship in total flames a few times after finishing the flag ship, and going back to mine and something has already fired on it.
Not sure how some of you use your ships, but I always hold the right mouse button down and move the picture to what I am shooting at or watch when they shoot, stop, or couter act.
