I've only been a member for a day and I hope to get to know all the wenches! I've noticed from some of the posts that some members have been leaving for WoW. The only reason I make this post is because I played the game from December 2004 (launch date) to March 2007. I've invested over 600 dollars of my money into that game from buying the game and the expasion and the monthly fees. The game is extremely fun, I can't deny that. It took me three months to lvl my first character to lvl 60 mostly because I started another one as well. When I bought the game I was working welding for a manufacting company called Vermeer in Pella Iowa. I would work 10-12 hour days and then as soon as I got home I would log on and play WoW. My life was either work or WoW. Pretty soon I started missing some days to play the game more. After having the game for two months I quit my job. I told myself I would attend college right away since I had saved quite a bit of money from work. I ended up just playing WoW more. When I lvled up the game was fun but It isn't untill you hit the lvl cap that you must devote ALOT of time in order to upgrade your character. There were only two 40 man raid dungeons when I started Molten Core and Onyxia. Nobody on our server could really do it. There are two factions in WoW, Horde and Alliance. Alliance had three times as many players since they were the "cutsie" looking races. Most horde players at the time were mature older players which suited me just fine but we lacked the numbers to try these dungeons. I joined a guild and we started becoming a well oiled machine raiding. We started doing server first boss kills and the addiciton to the game became worse. We raided on Fridays and saturdays. We spent 6 hours a night trying to clear Molten Core. We had the Horde server first kill of Ragnaros which was a big deal at the deal but created alot of drama with the server (since they thought we were elitist and were becoming too hardcore). We continued our stride forward into Blackwing Lair in which we became in compition with alliance guilds as well. We were so succesful in BWL because we upped our raid times to 8 hours a night on Fridays and Saturdays and some time on sunday. I had alot of fun. WoW is a game you can't really get bored of because there is so much to do all the time. Whether it be gaining reputation with different factions, massive Pvp battles, or just traveling the massive world. Those years of my life my only memories were of that game. I bring this up because I still like playing online games and I like pirates online. I also want the guild members to get a back ground story on me. I won't let this game consume me like WoW did. I eventually quit WoW and did go to school and meet alot of friends outside the online world. Another point i have to make is that if you really want to be a top player in WoW you have to devote alot of time to the game or else you won't have any of the great Items. You also can't expirience the lore without spending alot of time. You can't defeat the bosses without having a raiding guild. I own all the warcraft strategy games (I also have bought all the warcraft books) and I was excited to play a game where those storylines came to life but you won't be able to fight the well known characters solo. Sounds like i'm preaching but i've met plenty of people playing WoW who have quit just because the game started to consume them. The game is great and obviously offers way more content than this game. You pay 15 dollars a month but the support for the game is unreal. Being a casual player in WoW means you won't expirience all of the content your 15 dollars is going for. I'm not sure if this post helps or hurts the situation but I thought i would share my two cents. The game was so addicting for me that even as I read posts on here about WoW I seriously thought about activating my account just to see what has changed although I know it would be stupid for me to do so. Don't read into this post as WoW being some evil power, i'm just saying its way too easy to become too involved. BTW I think a better MMO coming out is Ages of Conan.
Take my post with a grain a salt, I just wanted to give my insight and I hope I don't offend anyone within the guild. I also just hit lvl 16 and bought a Frigate! Time to Plunder some booty!
