I am having a French ship problem too! Mine has to do with a quest requiring that I sink a French Shadow Crow. . . . I have only seen Spanish Shadow Crows, no French! I go to the places where all the French Ships are and see all the other Types, no shadow Crow. . . . anyone know where they lurk?
