Not sure what you mean by this, but if you mean that graphics card uses system RAM instead of having dedicated RAM, then that's the other part of the problem.
You may think that it "should play the game flawlessly", but it won't. Not with that kind of setup. There are some things that notebooks just won't do as well as a desktop. Graphics-intensive games are one of them. It's one of the compromises they made in the design.
Since you're on a notebook, your upgrade options are limited. You might try getting more RAM. The 2G that was suggested would be great.
Also, try setting all the graphics options to their minimum settings. Turn off the music. Make sure memory conservation is "default" instead of "aggressive". Defrag the hard drive.
And maybe even get rid of Vista and go back to XP.
