I agree with Elizabeth. My guild is quite large, but we have a core of main players. We are always chatting with each other, and I always try and greet any guild member as they come online. Like other good guilds, we have our own forum site with an Officers Mess, for the GM and officers to share views, suggest members to promote etc.
I am proud of the people I make Officers, and would never question why they invited a new member. They are given that privilege for a reason. I trust their judgment, and know that they think this person would make a good fit. If not, I know they would just as quickly remove that member. We have few rules, but the main one is "Be Polite." followed by "Have Fun".
Why would your guild want to embarrass you in such a way? Thats awful. I would be out myself. I can see why they have jaded your impression of guilds in general. Start your own (or join one of the many good guilds in this forum).
