Ben Gunn was a quiet man from the seaside town of Conwy Bay,Wales, he joined the British Navy at 17. During the Queen Anns War Gunn was a privatee, but when a Spanish Ship sent him to the bottom, Gunn was left stranded on a deserted island for years. when he was finally rescued he quickly went back to work privateering, not knowing the war had ended 6 months earlier making pirating a crime. when he sailed into Port Royal with his plunder he was quickly arrestedand sent to Bilgewater Island to await his hanging. One night while he was asleep a new visitor showed up at the jail and turned out to be none other than Jack Sparrow
. When jack set him free Ben agreed to help him recapture his ship back from the British. He vowed to get back at the British for crossing him, and the Spanish for causing him to be stranded on an island for 5 years and causing him to become entangled in the massive war of pirates vs the undead, the undead vs the British, British vs the pirates, and french privateers vs Spanish Privateers.
