Just check out the pirates directory on DxD. There are 6,348 pages of pirates whose names start with just the letter A - and there are 12 pirates per page. So, "A" pirates alone number well over 75k. For P's, there are 13,650 pages (about 163,800 pirates...wow).
Granted, that doesn't tell you actual players, considering a good number of those pirates probably belong to people who don't play anymore. But still...that's a
lot.
