I actually am going to say Pistol would be most important.

Pistol can be built up wisely, and be your back up to everything else you work. Pistol if you notice is the only weapon not under a effect by other stats.
Barrage - canon, grenade.
Blade instinct - cutlass, dagger.
Spirit mastery - doll, staff.

Pistol can be taken way ahead of other skills at first quite easily. Setting aim accuracy up for critters most wouldn't touch at a lower levels.
Pistol levels itself with hex shot, something starts to overwhelm you, a few aimed bane shots its dead. Hex shot and making everything else so easy to work would be quite a different game with out it. I can't really think of another weapon, that if it was gone would effect most the work you do on all others.

Grenade probably least important by its design. For it to be worked up and effective, such as siege bomb, the skill needs to be basically maxed so then points can be spent. At the point it is max, and you got massive damage in this, you get no rep. The grenade type needed to build it is at a low amount, and turns it into a choir. It is nice for show to go throw a grenade and watch like 6 things die in one hit, but basically that is all it is show.

Doll - drain life is a life saver. The overall kill item if you get over your head with something. Shackles can stop a target for a recovery as well.
Staff - flaming skull killing everything in line.
Dagger - viper nest, killing everything left from staff. Throw dirt was fun on seabeards, and watching them miss ya.
Cutlass probably is the last thing I pull out cause dagger is recharging of something, so blade storm does well against a single target.
