I can surely sympathize with your situation. I'm second in command of a guild with an absent guildmaster. Only see the GM about once a month if I'm lucky. Shortly after he left " hes working a lot of overtime plus attending college". the guild nearly died out. It took months to get the guild active again.
I'm new to the forums here and I'm not going to do anything so tacky as to plug my guild here. Rather I'd suggest looking at some of the guilds listed here. Getting to know some high level players in the game as this is a good way to find good friends and good guildmates.
