A Christmas Sparrow?
Sparrow was a devious, clever sorta guy,
The reader may pause to ask the question “Why?” The answer is simple if ya look into his past, But one must read this writin to the very last. When Jack was a boy at the tender age of eleven, He was derailed from a stout life and the pathway to heaven. It was Christmas morning as Jack can recall, Long before the emergence of huge, giant malls. He rose from his bed and ran to the fireplace, Certain his stocking held gifts that were great. But, alas, Jack’s stocking was empty ‘cept for some sooty, black coal, As he stood unbelieving…this event captured his soul. Jack cried a tear as he searched out his Mum, Her only reply “Your Father loves his rum”. Sparrow hesitated… then took a deep breath Knowing his father was a pirate… a pirate unto death. So Jack swore to himself on that Christmas morn, That his stocking would never again be empty or torn. He proceeded to take to the seas, and never looked back, Sparrow began to venture the waters and with himself made a pact. Treasure and booty would be his life’s work, Never again would his stocking resemble that one found over the hearth…. So this be one version of the life of Captain Jack Sparrow. A single empty Christmas stocking can reach to the bone’s marrow….

Well done, Lizzy. Jack must have been naughty for some reason, right?

I really liked the rhythm and rhyme patterns you used. Your poem flows very good thanks to that. I like the imagery used to describe that christmas scene. Well done Lizzy.

Wow Liz - A Poet in the Krewe???? Nice job mate!
Always wondered what sparked Sparrow to his life of reckless and ill-gotten gains. Nice tie to the season - I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas - and coal - less stockings! - Kat |

I love this too. Fantastic job lizzy. I liked the rhyming. Maybe the reason jack got coal was because he stole his fathers rum. :P
