This game is NOT kid-friendly...
Listen up, Disney: a computerized spell checker is no substitute for a human brain. Any 13-year-old kid could tell you that. Stop patting youselves on the back for creating a kid-safe environment when you haven't. It's NOT a safe place for kids, even if the parents are there watching them. Another pirate said something suggestive to my daughter in Spanish the other day. The spell checker didn't do anything to stop that. Disney, drop the pretense. You're not protecting our children when you let pirates get away with some of the names they've chosen, or allowing misspelled obscenities. Either ENFORCE your own rules, or loosen them up a little so we can actually talk to each other.

Guess this could be an opposite to the thread I just posted on about 18+ servers lol. Make 18 and under servers for kids ONLY, and 18+ for adults ONLY! I would be willing to bet more of the people in the 18 under servers get banned more often...

I myself am sad to admit it but I have lied just to play a few games. No not real bad games just when I was younger I lied and said I was 13-15 to play some good games that you really dont need that age to play. The best thing to do.. is DEAL WITH IT. OR save the safest game ever about to close on May 21st.. Disney's Virtual Magic Kingdom. Yea.. it's safe.. and it's from Disney. I recomend it for anyone up to 15.. wait nevermind I take that back.. I know multiple adults who play.

I don't think 18+ servers really accomplishes anything. To start with, I think the overlap for the range of behaviors for females ~13-23 & males ~15-25 is pretty much coterminous.
Plus, the business reality would dictate that server age statuses would reflect the over demographic of players. So, even though fewer "adults" would present truly problem behaviors, there would be fewer 18+ servers and the number of incidences per session wouldn't really change enough to make it worth the enforcement hassle. |

I haven't seen that many questionable names getting through the process, but I definitely have seen enough to see that there is a lot of inconsistency in the name approval process. Personally, I'd love to have a pirate named "Wu Wokou" (essentially, Pirate Wu), but I know that would violate that name rules for using non-english words. It isn't just the names that use double entendre because you can find that in a lot of places; for example, the Looney Tunes character Pepe Le Pew regularly used double entendre but it was often so well disguised that even adults sometimes don't get the implication of what he's said.
Lastly, I know people dislike geometry, but why is poor [decided to remove the name, indicating the 4th given example] getting lumped in with the others? There is even a firm nautical connection with navigators using circumferences. EDIT: Personally, I wish they'd firm up on that not allowing people to use honorifics and titles in their names too. |

Yeah, the naming rules are violated so often they might as well not be there.

One word: Amen.
Disney does need to loosen up a little bit, and let people actually use creative names. Sometimes when I would get in an arugment with someone, I'm always certain that I will get suspened, but I don't. Disney needs to stop thinking about just protecting kids but let them have fun. It's a MMOG for God's sake! |

I have seen plenty sexual innuendos and even have a friend who takes pride in gettin them on their new pirates. You would be amazed on the things that pass....

There are a few names that can be constructed with their built-in name generator that have innuendo aplenty; although, I'd prefer not to spell out which ones, lest those names begin to proliferate.

Not to be rude but I don't think that anyone under 18 should really have a say if there is ever going to be an adult server. If you've lied about your age than you are the ones ruining the game for all of us!

With that published warning, I don't see how you accuse Disney of hypocrisy or putting up a pretense. In fact, hypocrisy would be to complain about Disney not protecting kids, then encouraging people to "flood the Caribbean with misspelled obscenities and double entendres". And if you're being sarcastic about that, why did you list a bunch of examples? No system is perfect, and Disney hasn't claimed that theirs is perfect. There will always be people who try to push the filters to the limit. My suggestion: instead of complaining about it on a message board, report the players who act inappropriately. Click on them, then click the "Report" button. Simple enough. Everybody needs to do their part to keep the game as kid-safe as possible.

One thing I'd like to note. I understand everyone is upset, but let's just try to keep those filter bypassing names out of this site. I know we're a bit easy on what words we can and cannot say on here, but let's not think of every name in the book to post.
Keep in mind that we do have kids on this site as well. I just don't want it to get too messy on here. I'd rather not have to edit every post. ![]() But I do agree, they're not doing so great with the name filter.

Let me simplify my question, then:
why does Disney let things get through, like pirate names and guild names, when I would get suspended for saying the same things? |

I get ticked off about that arrr thing, some of my friends are idiots so they can't comprehend,"Turn of the arrr plus sign you stupid arrr!" Think they could have come up with something better than arrr? I would have used the star thing like on runescape. Stupid *****... lol
Another thing POTCO could learn from runescape, not that I like or play runescape anymore, but really, Unlimited only servers would be freaking awsome! Very helpful, no more level 1s lagging Tortuga, or no more Light Sloops attacking anything that I have attracted. I actually lost a Man O War in Bonaam to like five Light Sloops, and I hate training where they gang up on high leveled thigns that I attack, stealing my rep it very annoying.
