World of Warcraft
I've only been a member for a day and I hope to get to know all the wenches! I've noticed from some of the posts that some members have been leaving for WoW. The only reason I make this post is because I played the game from December 2004 (launch date) to March 2007. I've invested over 600 dollars of my money into that game from buying the game and the expasion and the monthly fees. The game is extremely fun, I can't deny that. It took me three months to lvl my first character to lvl 60 mostly because I started another one as well. When I bought the game I was working welding for a manufacting company called Vermeer in Pella Iowa. I would work 10-12 hour days and then as soon as I got home I would log on and play WoW. My life was either work or WoW. Pretty soon I started missing some days to play the game more. After having the game for two months I quit my job. I told myself I would attend college right away since I had saved quite a bit of money from work. I ended up just playing WoW more. When I lvled up the game was fun but It isn't untill you hit the lvl cap that you must devote ALOT of time in order to upgrade your character. There were only two 40 man raid dungeons when I started Molten Core and Onyxia. Nobody on our server could really do it. There are two factions in WoW, Horde and Alliance. Alliance had three times as many players since they were the "cutsie" looking races. Most horde players at the time were mature older players which suited me just fine but we lacked the numbers to try these dungeons. I joined a guild and we started becoming a well oiled machine raiding. We started doing server first boss kills and the addiciton to the game became worse. We raided on Fridays and saturdays. We spent 6 hours a night trying to clear Molten Core. We had the Horde server first kill of Ragnaros which was a big deal at the deal but created alot of drama with the server (since they thought we were elitist and were becoming too hardcore). We continued our stride forward into Blackwing Lair in which we became in compition with alliance guilds as well. We were so succesful in BWL because we upped our raid times to 8 hours a night on Fridays and Saturdays and some time on sunday. I had alot of fun. WoW is a game you can't really get bored of because there is so much to do all the time. Whether it be gaining reputation with different factions, massive Pvp battles, or just traveling the massive world. Those years of my life my only memories were of that game. I bring this up because I still like playing online games and I like pirates online. I also want the guild members to get a back ground story on me. I won't let this game consume me like WoW did. I eventually quit WoW and did go to school and meet alot of friends outside the online world. Another point i have to make is that if you really want to be a top player in WoW you have to devote alot of time to the game or else you won't have any of the great Items. You also can't expirience the lore without spending alot of time. You can't defeat the bosses without having a raiding guild. I own all the warcraft strategy games (I also have bought all the warcraft books) and I was excited to play a game where those storylines came to life but you won't be able to fight the well known characters solo. Sounds like i'm preaching but i've met plenty of people playing WoW who have quit just because the game started to consume them. The game is great and obviously offers way more content than this game. You pay 15 dollars a month but the support for the game is unreal. Being a casual player in WoW means you won't expirience all of the content your 15 dollars is going for. I'm not sure if this post helps or hurts the situation but I thought i would share my two cents. The game was so addicting for me that even as I read posts on here about WoW I seriously thought about activating my account just to see what has changed although I know it would be stupid for me to do so. Don't read into this post as WoW being some evil power, i'm just saying its way too easy to become too involved. BTW I think a better MMO coming out is Ages of Conan.
Take my post with a grain a salt, I just wanted to give my insight and I hope I don't offend anyone within the guild. I also just hit lvl 16 and bought a Frigate! Time to Plunder some booty!

Thanks for posting that. I'm glad to hear both sides of the WoW story.
It always takes me a while to get comfortable around new people, and I was really just beginning to feel like I was making friends when some of our Wenches switched games. I'd hate to lose that connection now. I've been offered a 10-day free pass to try out WoW. It's tempting, if only to go see what the fuss is about, but I promised Bella I'd watch out for the guild while she's busy barfing her guts out , and I'll be here as long as she and the Wenches need me. Maybe I'll wait and see what the other Wenches think after they've had a few weeks to play WoW. Let them be the guinea pigs. Is it really as good as the hype? If so, I can always join them later. |

I am actually doing the 10 day free thing at WoW right now...and it's very fun. But that doesn't make me want to abandon my wenches!! It's definitely a different kind of fun than Pirates, which is cool if you want to do both, because then they're not too similar. I haven't decided yet if I want to buy it after my free time is up.

LOL It is a different game. I have gotten the WOW bug myself. Past the 10 day trial and am now on my 30 day free play. Once thats up, I dont know if I will continue playing. I would like to as its addicting!!
I did have the same bug with pirates when I first joined. It consumed my life being on here 16+ hrs a day. As Rage said, it is piratey though. Heres some shots of my Bear form on a ship: ![]() ![]() unfortunately I get seasick and was lookin for the side!!! After my visit to "Booty Bay" and yes, that was the name of it, I headed back. But not after first buying a parrot or 2 and gettin rummed up. When u drink in the game, your player feels the affects and cant run straight, the screen gets fuzzy and its funny. ![]()

Duskwood is the server we are all on... The horde of course... and Thank you so much Toki! I agree WoW is addictive and i play quite a bit ... but i do LOVE sailing with all of u! Ill be on later for a bit and hopefully will see some of u. I have come to love both games.. and yes of the past few days i have been torn between the two and all the drama that goes with the games (NO OFFENSE TO BELLA!!!!!!!!) I love POTC but i must say WoW is my first love... I dotn knwo it all depends on how much time u have to play and what kind of fantasy game u like playin.
![]() Ann McRage P.S. I have foun a new game! its free ... its not up and runnin like POTC or WOW yet... but it says its goin to be.... And u get a Fairy to create!!!!!! Tinkerbell FTW! |

Please don't take what I'm saying as an insult. It's not meant as such.
The game is NOT addicting. An addictive personality can latch on to just about ANYTHING and become caught up with it to an unhealthy degree. Ultima, Evercrack, WoW, POTC, AoC, *****, exercise regimen, etc. For a while I damn near lost my job to a fixation on Photon laser tag. The key is realizing that doing anything to excess is unhealthy and being proactive about self-moderation. Not always easy. But then, what in Real Life is? |

Yes, I am a Holdem addict, a Racing/speed addict and a MMO addict. The first step is admitting you have a problem right?

Nathaniel, I agree with you completely. It's wrong to blame the game. People can get addicted to anything. I was interested in reading what Delamuerte had to say about the game itself - what he liked and disliked. That's what I want to know. What kind of game is it, what you do, etc. That will help me decide whether or not I'm interested in playing.
After beating my head against the wall for .... er, I mean, after considering the question carefully, I realized I'm NOT one of those people who can play for 16 hours a day. I can't sit still that long! I'm too easily bored, and there's way too much to do out there to spend all my time on one thing. It's entirely possible I could handle two games, alternating between them to keep from getting bored. Still not sure whether I'll give WoW a try or not, Rose and I are still debating it, but my parents did give me some money for my bday... Last edited by Lib Feathers; 06-14-2008 at 11:41 AM.. |

I tried WoW, but didn't like it much. I don't know. The graphics weren't that good, but then again, I was playing it on an older laptop and I have not tried it on my new comp.

Nathan is right about the addictiveness. You only get addicted when you want to be. Quitting my job also had to do with it being burnt out and I was planning heading back to school when I quit. I just delayed myself a little longer because I wanted epics heh.
Fifteen dollars a month isn't too bad (case of bud light on a friday night for me or rum lol). I think WoW has made alot of changes to help casual players get great gear. Theres plenty to do and the fact that the entire world is open without loading times is amazing. There are some loading times like when you switch continents, go to instances (dungeons or PvP), or head to Outland. Dungeons always keep you busy heres a list of all of them (The ones on Azeroth not the expansion). Ragefire Chasm (RFC) (13-16) Wailing Caverns (WC) (17-20) The Deadmines (VC) (17-20) Shadowfang Keep (SFK) (18-21) Blackfathom Deeps (BFD) (21-24) Stormwind Stockade (Stocks) (23-25) Razorfen Kraul (RFK) (24-27) Gnomeregan (Gnomer) (25-28) The Scarlet Monastery:Graveyard (SM) (30-32) The Scarlet Monastery:Library (SM) (33-35) Razorfen Downs (RFD) 25 (34-37) The Scarlet Monastery:Armory (SM) (35-37) The Scarlet Monastery:Cathedral (SM) (36-40) Uldaman (Ulda) (36-40) (I hate this place) Zul'Farrak (ZF) (43-46) Maraudon (Mara) (43-48) Temple of Atal'Hakkar (Sunken Temple) (ST) (47-50) Blackrock Depths (BRD) (48-56) Dire Maul:East (DM) (55-58) Lower Blackrock Spire (LBRS) (54-60) Dire Maul:West (DM) (57-60) Dire Maul:North (DM) (57-60) Stratholme (Strat) (58-60) Scholomance (Scholo) (58-60) Upper Blackrock Spire (UBRS) (58-60) Zul'Gurub (ZG) (60+) Raid Onyxia's Lair (Ony or OL) (60+) Raid Molten Core (MC) 50 (60+) Raid Blackwing Lair (BWL) 60 (60++) Raid Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj (RAQ or AQ20) (60++) Raid Temple of Ahn'Qiraj (TAQ or AQ40) (60+++) Raid Naxxramas (Naxx) (Honored - Argent Dawn) (60++++) Raid There are also world raid enconters like Azuregos and The green dragons. Heres one green dragon called Lethon. ![]() Theres just as many in the expansion and Wrath of the Lich King expansion is on its way. I always found dungeons to be the most exciting content besides leveling and seeing new areas for the first time. I guess the main problem with this content is you can't do it by yourself. You need friends and random groups usually suck. Players that never play with each other often don't know how to coordinate and you usually die alot. You also have some a-holes that ninja loot somtimes. When I started if you wanted to PvP you just went to a town and started trouble. The implemented PvP honor system a long time ago which allowed items rewards for killing oppsing factions. They now have many ways to PvP through battlegrounds and Arena (fun way to fight other players and get epics!). I just wanted to add some more thoughts because I don't think my original post was too helpful. This game never ends. You may get bored of just playing but theres always more gear to strive for, reputations to increase, dungeons to be conquered, PvP battles to be won, professions to work on, quests to be done, classes to be leveled, money to be made, and friends to meet (theres stuff i'm probabl forgetting). I've always had a gripe on character model customization. Its certainly not as in depth as this game. All players of a certain race are the same size (male and female differ). All male humans are bodybuilders. I wish you could make characters a little more unique. I always thought the graphics were prety decent a bit cartoonish but it never bothered me too much. All in all what makes WoW a great game is for the same reasons POTCO is a great game. The ability to go on adventures with real people. Most of the fun is just goofing off with people you meet. Oh and the note of graphics I found this a little while ago (those tha play may have heard of this). I never got to try it because I had already quit. from worldofraids.com: Some players found a way to improve WoW graphics by manipulating several console commands. The following macro will do the job: /console farclip 777 /console horizonfarclip 6226 /console groundeffectdensity 256 /console groundeffectdist 140 /console smallcull 0 /console skycloudlod 3 /console characterambient 0 You have to restart WoW for some of the effects to be used. What does this do? • The vegetation can be seen from miles away (grass flowers etc) plus there seems to be FAR more of it. • The "bloom" effect seems to be more vivid. • The view distance is greatly increased. • Everything seems to be more sharp and crisp. • The weather effects appear to be more intense. However depending on your hardware you might encounter some fps issues (low framerates), so here is the macro to revert the changes (you can also go to video options and pull all the detail options to minimum): /console groundEffectDensity 16 /console groundEffectDist 1 /console horizonfarclip 1305 /console farclip 177 /console characterAmbient 1 /console smallcull 1 /console skycloudlod 1 /console detailDoodadAlpha 1 |

So just wondering.... Are those commands for WoW? Because I have never heard of that before. I have been playing for almsot two years and I off and on enjoy the game. Bella can tell you that I have my days I just want to Blow some ships up!!! Other days like our guilds raid night is pure fun too! We raid Karazan and now Zula'Mon (sp?) now. But I try and keep it to only a few days a week for raiding because I do have a son that is gettin bigger and I try and spend more time with him.
But as for those commands... Where did u get those... I'm not sure the last time you were on WoW but there has been HUGE changes to to video and sounds option... They even have their own version of voice chat... I hate it though...can't hear anything... Speaking of vent I love you all but whoever plays WoW please come up to the lobby or into a group channel(while playing wow, not playin POTC). Just out of respect for our guild master in POTC ;') or she be havign to pull out the whip Matey! or make ye walk the plank! hehe anyway All in all Ihave to say i quite enjoy both games! So .... oh yeah i drank it lol. By the way I tried Soki today and it was absolutely HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! I don't recommend anyone try it.... ![]() Oh and all u should tell ur men (if u got one) Happy Father's Day! ![]() Love ![]() Ann McRage |
