Miscarried Pistol and PvP

I've met with Barbossa using a recently created pirate. When it told me to press escape to put away the weapon, I switched to the sword pressing F1, then ran. If you try to access your pistol, you don't have it. Anyway, outside of Barbossa's little hiding is a glitched ocean, a flat universe of blue. Upon running over the water, your weapon'd go away. Now, after reaching this point, and after running back to Barbossa and seeing nothing could be done (you could press escape with the cutlass drawn to make the box disappear), I logged off.

When I got back on immediately, I pressed F2 and found my pistol. My notoriety was the same. As well, I had a Lookout ability, though I never got to the point where I was given the coin. I went back to Barbossa and did the same thing, except this time I had already claimed my pistol. My notoriety is still the same at 2.

So anyway, in my journal, the quest is completed and the task under it is too: Meet Captain Barbossa. Apparently, I can meet him again whenever I need too.

Anyone see any plusses here, aside from the fact that I get a less-clogged notoriety (100 or so less to be exact). I don't have two pistols (or may I when I log back on?), the damage doesn't cumulate or anything.

I don't really see a point to it, just found it interesting. I did take pics, but I don't really care for posting them though. The ocean outside the cave is the only real interesting thing.

If you go back to visit him, does it have you shoot the monkey again and tell you to press escape to put away the weapon?
If so, what happens when you press Esc at that point (without drawing the cutlass)?

I actually went back, tried to do the same thing, but found myself cornered. I just went through with the thing. You don't lose anything; all that happened was that I gained the 100 noto.
