I was working on the doll quest for one of my pirates and saw him...

Well, on the ledge in Fort Charles, a mercenary usually stands there. Sometimes at various locations enemies will end up running or falling out of place. So i'm just guessing he was out for a midnight stroll.

Well we were both at the wrong place at the wrong time lol. As you can tell I ATTEMPTED to fight him, and in one hit he took out most of my health then disengaged.

This is the kinna event I talked bout in my thread in levelin new pirates...The updates have made it more difficult becuz u get attacked from everywheres. Never no what enemy is gonna appear from where and in what numbers. Oh well just adds sum excitement and alot of jail time to the game (grin)

When an emeny gets disengaged they do that crazy run where you see em on one part then a second later theyre in another part of the place, it looks like someone ran from him and he disengaged and stayed outside the fort. Like Lizzy said after the updates they've made it difficult.

Judging by the way he turned and looked at you, I'd say he was just there to kill ya! Anywhoo, I had fun seeing the transition in the pictures.

My best guess is the merc fell off the top of the fort.. or chased someone out, and disengaged and stayed out there..

I seriously doubt this is intentional programming/manipulation of NPCs. Also they are working on the "disengage" code for NPCs, likely had something to do with it.

YOU ARE VERY LUCKY
he used taunt that was probably the only thing that would not kill you... but that is a disengage glitch quite annoying if you are low lv.

If you were on Galaacare server, then you probably saw him after he chased James Buffit Jr out of Fort Charles! LOL! I was doing the chicken run on the lv16 Grunt and got to close to the lv28 Merc, he started chasing me and I ran like a scurvey dog trying to avoid the dog catcher! I came back up the hill after my health regnerated and there he was. I gave him quite the wide berth when re-entering the Fort, but it did make the chicken run easier for me on the Grunt! LOL

Bye the way Edward...I ran into the same dude 2 days ago...Fortunately he was chasin other pirates...so I slipped by real quiet like and never received his wrath or dagger!

He's lucky his anger didn't get the best of him: I know he was still red from that taunt, but sheesh! The guy's a killer!

This is one of those things started by a handful of updates ago around the time they fixed the kings head fence glitch.

Basically its like this a few of the enemies are on a random timer either random or at set intervals in almost every place in the game certain enemies will move at a fast pace in random intervals in order to cover lots of ground real fast and the purpose of this is to kill off players who leave their pirates logged in 24 hours a day simply to provide a crew bonus for friends.

Places like kings head where people would lob grenades for hours and hours behind fence with all their buddies still logged in while at work or school.

Consider it a taking out the trash routine.

I think red enemies have a distance that they can go before disengaging.
