Best Ammo for Cannon?

If you still have leveling to do I'd keep round shot at one and put at most 1 on barrage and use round shot to get rep.
Get 3 on shoot after 3 you probably won't be able to click your mouse or button fast enough to take advantage of it.
Put 5 on on rapid reload as soon as you can.
I usually don't bother with grape and chain shot.
Fireball- I hear it is good for SvS. In regular play it doesn't do much for me. I put 1 point on it.
Thunder bolts - one point till cannon is mastered then 5. Use it to tag ships at a distance and to take out sails.
Explosives - loads too slowly and is too hard to aim to be useful most of the time. Not to mention it is very short ranged. But can be good if you can load it ahead of time. put one point.
Fury is the fastest way to inflict massive damage. I put 5 on it as soon as I can. Effective in SvS, Boss battles ( if you have a couple of gunners with 5 on fury its almost a sure win) and for taking enemy ships out in a hurry when you need to protect your ship. For example if a ship spawns right next to your ship.
